Houseboat life

July 27th, 2010

Having your very own houseboat is one of those experiences everyone should have once in their lives. We have been lucky enough to own one “Constanza” for the past four years and have enjoyed every minute of it, summer or winter!

When we first brought our Houseboat we invited friends and family along to enjoy the experience with us. At first we thought we were the most boring people in the world because all our guests would fall asleep in the middle of the day. It was not until the third or forth time that we realised it was because they were so relaxed and not our “boring”company.

Drifting along the river barely making a ripple the cool breeze along with the light sound of the water lapping against the pontoons is enough to put anyone to sleep. Forget all the blood pressure pills simply jump on board and I will guarantee, you will feel more relaxed than you have been for a long time.

The other advantage of having your own boat is it remains fully stocked with supplies and linen allowing those spur of the moment decisions  like “lets go up the river” and best of all after a quick tidy up its ready for your next visit.

There you have it, one of life’s great pleasures, but don’t take my word for it come and have a look for yourself!!

Houseboat on the Murray River

January 14th, 2010

The Murray River is one of Australia’s premier river systems. Stretching 2530 kilometres and passing through three States (NSW, VIC and SA) and is one of the most fascinating and beautiful river systems in Australia. The section of the River Murray in South Australia is quite unique in that it not only floods out onto open plains but also winds  its way through ancient sandstone cliffs.

This makes the journey on a houseboat a truly memorable event. It is even more special when it is your very own houseboat and you’re surrounded by your own things and are not restricted to being anywhere in particular at a certain time. When you pull into the river bank as the sun slowly sets on the river, as a guy, being able to cook on your very own BBQ is priceless.

The houseboat Constanza is a boat that has all of this covered and more. It has been recently upgraded to include the latest equipment including Mile washing machine, Stainless Steel Webber BBQ and a new super quiet Honda generator to name a few of the improvements.

If you think that this is the sort of lifestyle you might enjoy then please drop us a line or post a comment on the Blog.

Selling a Houseboat

September 6th, 2009

Its always a difficult decision to sell a houseboat. This is especially hard for us because we have spent so much time on our houseboat and have been fortunate to see so much of the beautiful Murray River.

There is nothing quite so special as being woken up by the sounds of nature and knowing that your having such a small impact on it. I think this aspect of environmental impact and houseboat ownership is under stressed. It is possibly one of the lowest impact ways to see and explore the river (apart from canoeing or perhaps just floating) that I know of plus you have the benefit of being surrounded by all the modern convieniences.

So when we decided to sell our houseboat we thought long and hard about it. I think the thing that helped us make the decision to sell is that we know the lucky people who buy our houseboat will also get to enjoy it as much as we have.
